We have started an experiment to see what will rot over the next term and what will not. We have three compartments with different kinds of rubbish in it. The first has plastic and foil from a cheese cracker (Le Snack) packet. The second has a banana and the third has a sheet of art paper. After a week we can see the banana is starting to rot but the plastic and paper is not. We began monitoring the temperature of the soil the rubbish is buried in. All three compartments were at 15 degrees celsius.
In Winter Michael and Juliet brought some tulip bulbs from home and planted them in pots with Amy. They flowered last week. Aren't they beautiful? Our play dough this week was inspired by the colours in the tulip. When mixed together they made a vibrant orange.
We have been talking a lot about ways we can reuse bits and pieces that often get thrown in the rubbish. We reused some florist netting, scraps of material, lace, buttons and an old lei to make these gorgeous pieces of art.
